Welcome to the very first MOCA SUNDAY NEWSLETTER, Your Weekly MOCA Round-Up! Every Sunday from here on out, expect a newsletter delivered straight to your inbox containing everything going on at MOCA: our newest essays, our weekly podcasts, videos of our tech, our upcoming exhibitions, and whatever other exciting things/announcements we’d love for you to know about. So without further ado, let’s get rounded up! 🐄🤠🐄🤠🐄🤠
1. We’re Expanding Our Newsletters and Podcasts!
Consistency is key, right? We don’t want to be littering your inbox with all sorts of random newsletters at random times, so here’s what we’re thinking: On Sundays (starting today), we’ll get you caught-up on everything happening in the MOCA Ecosystem, all in one place, easily accessible. On Wednesdays beginning sometime in the next month, we’ll be hitting you with columns, short-form content, interesting tidbits of crypto art conversation from ourselves and guest writers we love. Two newsletters a week, every week, so you’re always chock-full-o’-content and never out of the loop.
On top of that, we’ll soon be expanding the MOCA LIVE Podcast to twice weekly! That means more discussions about crypto art’s past, present, and future. That means more special guests from all over crypto country. More insights, more often. We might even change the name! Make sure you subscribe on Spotify or Apple Podcasts so you never miss an episode.
2. The MOCA Fundraiser in Hindsight
With two weeks since the MOCA Fundraiser ended, it feels like a good time to debrief on what we all did together.
We sold 1625 MOCA FUNDRAISER 2023 DNFTs! Our 26-Hour Livestream was tuned into by over 2800 viewers! While we fell well short of our overall fundraising goal, we are humbled by all the support from our community. Thank you to everyone who bought a DNFT, tuned into our livestream, or submitted an artwork. We really really (really really) love you.
3. MOCA LIVE Episode 31: Have We Been Thinking About Crypto Art All Wrong? (featuring HiddenForces)
Max is joined by the last and loudest person to flame his writing, the artist Hidden Forces, for a discussion about everything Max has gotten wrong (and other things he's gotten right) in his recent essay about collectorship, “The Collectors Who’ll Kill Crypto Art.” Their conversation starts with 20th century art history, hops onto the burden-laden shoulders of crypto art collectors, and ends with a redefining reassessment of crypto art's cultural value.
4. AND: AN EXHIBITION ON BLOCKCHAIN
AND PERFORMANCE ART CURATED BY OONA AND PRESENTED IN COLLABORATION WITH THE MUSEUM OF CRYPTO ART AND ZORA.
MOCA’S NEWEST exhibition opens this week, featuring works by SamJ, Violet Bond, Edgar Fabián Frías, David Henry Nobody Jr., DADAGAN, and the exhibition’s curator, OONA. In addition to the exhibition itself, a single “AND” NFT will be for sale, and all purchasers will be airdropped a special artwork from each participating artwork.
On Wednesday, OONA will be our guest the MOCA LIVE Podcast talking all things “AND.”
Below you’ll find the WORLD PREMIERE sneak-peak of the official “AND” announcement zine. The full zine will be releasing soon as a **free** mint thanks to our friends at Zora (it’s flippin’ gorgeous and you will not want to miss it)!
Thanks for sticking around this long. See ya’ll real soon.
xoxo,
MOCA
